東京大学史料編纂所は，150年に及ぶ史料の調査・収集と研究，基幹史料集の編纂・出版，蓄積した学術情報と研究成果の公開・発信を柱に，古代から明治維新までの日本史研究を進めることを目的とした我が国唯一の国立大学附置研究所です。国内・海外に所在する史料の調査・研究や蓄積した史料情報・研究成果の研究資源化に組織的に取り組む仕組みを構築し，各種データベースの公開・発信をおこなって日本史研究の学術基盤を支えています。また，1946年に設立された社会科学研究所は，現在では，比較現代法，比較現代政治，比較現代経済，比較現代社会，国際日本社会の5部門に加え，社会連携研究部門，附属社会調査・データアーカイブ研究センター（CSRDA）によって構成されています。特にCSRDAは，我が国における社会科学の実証研究を支援するために，SSJデータアーカイブ（Social Science Japan Data Archive: SSJDA）を構築し，個票データの提供を1998年4月から開始しました。SSJDAでは，社会科学の多様な分野で行われた社会調査の個票データを収集・保管し，その散逸を防ぐとともに，学術目的・教育目的での二次的な分析のために研究者や大学院生へ提供しています。今回のワークショップでは，両研究所の案内をはじめ，中核機関として共同で取り組んでいる「人文学・社会科学データインフラストラクチャー強化事業」の活動や史料編纂所史料保存技術室による史料修復・保存についてご紹介いたします。

The Historiographical Institute (HI) of the University of Tokyo is the sole research institution in Japan established by a national university for the study of historical material spanning Japan’s premodern history from the eighth to the nineteenth centuries. Its mission is to collect and analyse various historical materials from both domestic and international sources and compile and publish them as collections of Japanese historical material spanning 150 years. These efforts aim to benefit both academia and society. The HI has developed a robust research system to survey and study historical material from Japan and abroad and convert the accumulated historical information and research findings into research resources. Thus, it supports the academic foundation of Japanese history by disseminating valuable knowledge resources through publications. The Institute of Social Science (ISS) of the University of Tokyo, established in 1946, is currently composed of the following five departments: Comparative Contemporary Law, Comparative Contemporary Politics, Comparative Contemporary Economics, Comparative Contemporary Societies, International Japanese Society, Division of Social Cooperative Research, and the Center for Social Research and Data Archive (CSRDA). In particular, the CSRDA established the Social Science Japan Data Archive (SSJDA) to promote empirical research in the social sciences, and has been disseminating archival data since April 1998. SSJDA collects and stores individual data from social surveys conducted in various fields of the social sciences, prevents their dissipation, and provides them to researchers and graduate students for secondary analysis for academic and educational purposes. In this workshop, we will introduce the two institutes, our activities in the ‘Program for Strengthening Data Infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences’, which we are undertaking jointly as core institutions, and the restoration and preservation of historical materials by the Conservation Laboratory of the HI.
