The NDL Digital Collections (https://dl.ndl.go.jp/?__lang=en) enables users to search and view a variety of resources collected and stored by the National Diet Library of Japan.
Now, a questionnaire for users of the NDL Digital Collections has started. Please help us improve the usability of this collection by answering this questionnaire.

Greetings from the National Diet Library (NDL), Japan.

Japan Search <https://jpsearch.go.jp> is a platform for digital resources about Japan from a wide variety of Japanese content makers, where users can search for publications, artwork, movies, and other cultural assets. It was developed and is being promoted by the Japanese Government.

The National Diet Library, Japan, is offering a workshop for Japanese Studies Librarians and Researchers held in March 2020 at Tokyo.

This workshop is for librarians, mainly subject librarians, or researchers outside Japan who are expected to engage in reference services or research on Japanese rare materials. The program aims to foster understanding of the rare materials collections owned by the NDL and other research institutions, and to improve skills in utilizing both physical materials and digital content.

Dates: March 2 to March 6, 2020

The NDL is now accepting applications from overseas institutions for approval to receive the Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries. Patrons at libraries subscribing to this service will be able to search and browse digitized versions of the more than two million books, periodicals, rare books and old materials that comprise the NDL Digital Collections, including about half a million materials which are also available on the website.

The National Diet Library, Japan, released two new e-learning courses with English subtitles.

- How to make good use of the NDL Digital Collections for Japanese Studies http://training.ndl.go.jp/course/under.html?id=58&lang=en
This course provides an introduction to the features of the NDL Digital Collections and how to search and use its contents from outside Japan.

The NDL will accept ILL/DD requests via email from registered users and institutions outside Japan that are unable to use the Japanese-language version of the NDL-OPAC. This service starts on a trial basis from April 1st.

The efforts to achieve an extended access to the NDL digital collections from abroad have reached a new stage. The draft to change the respective law/regulations has been issued. Currently the Japanese government collects public comments concerning the draft. Please find below Prof. Takeuchi’s email. Prof Takeuchi (Vice-President of Chiba University and NCC’s former Japan liaison) has arranged the meeting of Ms. Noguchi and Mr. Dunkel with the representatives of the Bunkachō last year.
